I worked for months, working 12- hour days sanding floors and taking wallpaper down with one child strapped on my back and the others playing in the playpen. Ha! The home was beginning to appear nice, however there was a lot to be done. The home would require a great deal of effort as well as a passion of shopping. To stay on budget I started going to estate sales with three boys searching for jewels in the rough. Our weekly routine that consisted of spending Friday through Saturday at estate and garage sales, buying old and new items. The rest of the week working on painting and sanding the driveway. My collection eventually grew to the point that the space that I was living in was inadequate. At home, I began hosting open houses in which more than 1000 guests could visit and buy any item they wanted on the first floor within a single weekend. Growing Days was created in this house. My company was flourishing however my family was also growing. The balance between work and family was crucial to me. I wanted to be both a mom and also a successful business owner. Growing Days fit perfectly. My daughter Nora became our fourth daughter. I was thrilled with where my company was taking me, but I felt like I needed a break. I opted to take a little time off from my vintage furniture and slow down to be at home with my children. It was time. After a few months when the phones began to call. They were asking for assistance with interior decorating and home renovations. These were mostly customers that came to my house for furniture. As I went along I added new clients to my list in a series of. However, it didn't take that long before I was managing multiple clients and ran a profitable home improvement business. If you had said to me that this company that I started would become an idea for a TV show for the DIY Network I probably would have laughed. If I think back, it makes me giggle.
