Nadia Comaneci - (born on 12 November 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej (now Onesti, Romania), Romanian gymnast. The first gymnast to earn a 10. an Olympic competition. Bela Karrolyi, the Romanian gymnastics trainer who later became her coach later in life she discovered her when she was six. At first, she competed in the championships for juniors from Romania in 1969 she placed 13th. In 1970, she won. In 1972, at the communist nations' meet for junior athletes before the Olympics she was awarded three gold medals. Then in 1973 and '74 she was the overall junior champion. When she competed for the first time at the senior level, Lyudmila Turkishcheva of Russia won five gold medals, as well being awarded a silver. She took home the American Cup at the New York City Olympics. She also became the first woman to ever dismount parallel bars using backwards double salto.
